DONE IS BETTER THAN PERFECT. JUST START.

Do you have perfection paralysis?

If the idea of perfection is only holding you and your business back, you’re not alone. At Mountain Chic Creative, we’ve been there too. Over the years we’ve learned that there is SO much value in making mistakes and learning from them.

By trying to make things perfect, you can often fall victim to not getting anything done at all. When things aren’t perfect, that leaves room for constructive criticism which is crucial for a business to be able to grow. When you have the mindset of perfection, you’re wasting time worrying about failure. And time is valuable for a business.

Make a choice.

Choose to enjoy the process rather than stress over it. The quality of your work is important but the quality of your well-being is as well. And by the way, no one is waiting for you to mess up.

Need some inspo? Check out these podcasts on overcoming perfectionism:

don't try to do it all! focus on what you do best, outsource WHAT OTHERS CAN DO BETTER THAN YOU.

Are you a jack or jane of everything, and a master of none? No one is skilled at everything. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or paralyzed, it could be that you’re trying to do too much.

Take a moment for self reflection and identify 3-5 things you do best. Then, write down 3-5 things that others do better than you. Make a pact with yourself to outsource your “weaker” points to create efficiencies in your business.

Efficiency is a key factor in growing a budding business. Time is precious to a business and using it to learn new skills that take years to master is no friend to your bank of time. Sure, it may seem like more of an expense to pay someone else for an outsourced job at first, but time is as valuable as money and the trade-off is more than worth it! Reframe your mindset to think about outsourcing as a long-term investment. You save time not doing that aspect of the work yourself, not having to learn or master the skill. We promise your mind and your clients will be happier!

LIVE A LITTLE.

A budding business can become the sole focus of your day in, day out. Remember those who are around you cheering you on and make sure to prioritize your relationships, friendships (& your self-care).

Your quality of life translates into your business. If you’re burning it at both ends, eventually your daily work will become a chore, rather than a passion. If you don’t enjoy what you do… It. Will. Show.

Protect your business and your energy by prioritizing your work/life balance. If you’re feeling depleted, try recharging your energy by:

  1. Calling a friend you haven’t FaceTimed in awhile
  2. Pursuing a new hobby (and no, more work doesn’t count)
  3. Booking a mid-week self care treatment like a massage, spa day, or self-guided nature hike – you call it!
  4. Deleting apps from your phone. If you’re plagued by notifications even when you’re not on your computer, remove the temptation to “work from anywhere” by deleting certain apps from your phone (think: Slack, Asana, etc).
  5. Writing a postcard from your town and sending it to a family member. E-cards are great, but there’s something extra special about sending a handwritten note.
  6. Organizing your home or workspace. A clean environment will help settle your mind and reduce distractions. Take it one step further and block out a time weekly or monthly to knock this one out!
